Philly Beer Lover Guide

In honor of Philly Beer Week (June 2-11), I’m sharing some of my favorite spots — bottle shops, breweries, beer gardens and more — as a guide for beer lovers around the city…. for this week or all summer long, many with alfresco spaces.

More than 15 spots to save on your Google Map and get busy beer crawlin’…

  • Philadelphia Brewing Company in Fishtown.

  • New Dock Street location in Fishtown opened up this spring, after closing up shop in West Philly (now replaced by Carbon Copy); Their Washington Street location is still up and running, depending on what area you’re interested in.

  • Pair Urban Village Brewing Company and nearby Standard Tap.

  • Craft Hall right on the Delaware, and a few steps away is the Other Half Brewing, which took Goose Island’s palatial spot with a nice outdoor space.

  • Check out Source Brewing Company, which has a great selection and a full-bar so those non-beer lovers can tag along.

  • Independence Beer Garden is a great away to soak up some history in front of the Liberty Bell and Independence Mall in Old City.

Beer Gardens

  • PHS Pop Up Beer Garden on South Street by the PA Horticulture Society manages this and runs activities and plant swaps on occasion so BYO-plant.

  • Parks on Tap - Follow the rotating beer garden around the city, all summer long. Here’s the calendar of locations. We just enjoyed a beautiful sunset this week at Schuylkill Banks, which goes for another few days.

Bigger Breweries

It’s not just about Yuengling here! We have other amazing breweries and have seen a big craft beer boom with the laws lightening up in the state. Check out Philly breweries like:

  • Victory - Head to Logan Square and try out the many Victory Beers on tap and some of their rotating other Philly beers.

  • Evil Genius - This one is further afield to the north but worth a trip if you like their brews.

  • Yard’s - Spend an afternoon here with a beer in hand, some corn hole and watch a game on their big screens.

  • Love City Brewery - check this spot out and their local food trucks on site.

Bottle Shops

Take a variety pack to go or stick around at the shop to try an assortment of beers sold individually…

  • BeerLOVE - 4th Street

  • The Bottle Shop - on Passyunk

  • 9th Street Bottle Shop - Italian Market, which is great with their outdoor seating and next to the Di Bruno’s so you can people watch and munch on some Italian finds at the shops.

  • Bella Vista Beverage

  • Nearby, head to Jaxx (formerly Pennsport Beer Depot) to check out their fridges full of an extensive variety of beers, ciders and seltzers too. Grab one and sit out in their outdoor space on a beautiful day. Also get the cheesesteak here!

Beer Necessities
Need some company sipping those brews? Are you a woman who loves beer? Yea, me too. I joined a great group called Beer Necessities, where we meetup all over the city pretty regularly to try new places and tried-and-true spots.

Cheers and enjoy a cold one!

This partnership with Wawa & 2SP is so great but only sold at Liberty Point on the waterfront. Worth going there!
