Epic Trips to Africa You Should Take Now

Some don’t realize that Africa is the size of the US & China combined and has more than 50 countries. Recently, on my visit to the three-story high glass globe in the Mapparium, it put the sheer size into perspective unlike any other maps before. I stood there on the bridge in awe.

After my first trip to Africa in 2006, I have returned many times. You have so many bucket-list trip ideas from Morocco to South Africa. In honor of my client Alluring Africa winning the Travel+Leisure 2023 World’s Best Safari Outfitter, here are some teasers to line up your next adventure to Africa and allow me to help you plan your tip:

Zambia & Victoria Falls

My first trip to Africa in 2006 started in Malawi, then we traversed over by safari vehicle to Zambia to Victoria Falls, bordering Zimbabwe. After this trip, I was hooked. Africa isn’t a once-in-a-lifetime trip. You will go back. It gets inside you.

East Africa: Kenya & Tanzania

Pairing these neighboring countries is a great way to see a lot of wildlife, culture and beach. Nairobi is urban yet has plenty of animal experiences like the Giraffe Center, Nairobi National Park, Walking Safari, and of course the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust: Elephant Sanctuary - baby elephants!! If you have more time, I encourage you to add on Zanzibar. it’s where I fell in love and took me on many more adventures after.

Ethiopia

My trip in 2016 was one of the most epic and far-flung places I’ve ever been. We went from Lalibela’s rock-hewn churches to the hottest, lowest point on Earth, the Danikel Depression, where it felt like were on another planet. Ethiopia is a place you really need expert guidance and cannot go to the Depression without proper safety, guides and equipment.

Egypt

Standing in front of the ancient ruins, moments and the depths of tombs in the Valley of the Kings strikes such a chord. Learning about it growing it up to see if right in front of my eyes.

I strongly recommend you do the full circuit! I went for the 12-day itinerary that included the flight to Abu Simbel and all the way north to Alexandria. If you’re going for your bucket-list Egypt, you have to do it right. Highly suggest going with a small group tour like Intrepid where all the entries and details are taken care of as well as make some great traveler friends.

South Africa

This diverse country offers city, history, culture, beach, lush vinelands and safari. I’ve helped clients and media go to this amazing destination for years, so I’m thrilled to finally go in 2024. Remember, our winter is their summer and vice versa when you’re picking when you want to go and why.

Uganda

Gorilla trekking, rafting the Nile River, camping and horseback riding are some incredible reasons to visit Uganda. We ended up there during an international kayaking festival with folks from all over the world doing tricks and flips in the toughest rapids. It was so cool and is held annually at the end of January. That’s us being flipped on our white water rafting day. I looked terrified but I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

Morocco

A colorful place such as Morocco needs to be on your list. From the markets to the desert, it’s a place you could zig zag, eat, shop, and take in some incredible scenery and designs. If you want to pair it with another country, I would suggest Spain.

There are so many trips you can take, and still have plenty of reasons to go back to Africa. With all the direct flights from the US, it makes it easier, more accessible and be able to maximize your PTO. If you want to start planning your visit, please reach out. The sooner the better, so you can get availability if you plan on going in high season.
